>>Although Blizzard isn't ready to announce a screenwriter or director yet, Sams said that he and Blizzard Creative Director Chris Metzen had been working closely with John Jashni, COO at Legendary Pictures, to lock down both important positions. Sams also told us that they had been working with Jashni for years, well before the Warcraft movie was greenlit, and that Jashni had been their primary contact in Hollywood when searching around for the possibility of a big-screen adaptation of the various Blizzard licenses.
Stressing his confidence in Jashni, Sams told us, "With John, it feels like we're handing our baby over to a family member." While Warner Bros. is the primary studio behind the Warcraft movie, Legendary Pictures will be co-financing the affair.
Although details are still shrouded in mystery at this point, Blizzard expects the Warcraft movie to have a budget well over $100 million. "Warner Bros. says this will be a tent pole movie for them," Sams explained, "a big, high-budget blockbuster that they expect to do very well and hold up the tent along with other big blockbuster movies that year." <<

GameSpot: Let's talk about the big news this week, the movie. How do you make sure the Warcraft movie--well, plain and simple--doesn't suck?
Paul Sams: We're not trying to take what we've done and...try to make a literal translation to the big screen. What we want to do is to make a great movie that happens to be set in a video game universe. That's a differentiator, and a key differentiator. A lot of it comes down to picking the right people. A lot of the other video game movies that have come out before this haven't had the budgets, the right people, and haven't had the right mindset. We and Legendary want to make a great film, an event picture, big-budget picture, that is a great stand-alone, fantasy-based movie that is good for you regardless of whether you're familiar with the Warcraft universe.

GS: So what type of movie are you shooting for?

PS: Braveheart. Lord of the Rings. But you know, obviously Lord of the Rings is a different type of fantasy tale, so we want to make sure that there's separation out there. I say Braveheart. I think Braveheart is an epic, big, gorgeous, wonderful tale, and it's full of conflict and intrigue and all sort of things going on and you learn to love these characters or hate others--kind of what we've tried to build with this universe already. So we joke around internally that we want to fall somewhere between Braveheart and Lord of the Rings.

Der Gold-Farmer, dieser viel diskutierte Beruf findet endlich Beachtung in einer Video-Dokumentation:

When I entered a gold farm for the first time (tietou's gaming workshop in the preview), I was shocked by the positive spirit there, the farmers are passionate about what they do, and there is indeed a comraderie between them ... I do see suffering and exploitation too, but in that place suffering is mixed with play and exploitation is embodied in a gang-like brotherhood and hierarchy. When I talked with the farmers, they rarely complained about their working condition, they only complained about their life in the game world.

Freud und Leid liegen nah beieinander.

Gleich zwei WoW Beiträge hintereinander... unglücklich. Aber dieser hier ist für Spieler zu interessant, um ihn im Nirvana zu lassen. Es geht um Gerüchte über eine neue Klasse. Sobald diese Informationen in offiziellen gepostet wurde, war sie nur wenige Zeit später gelöscht.

Da läuft man ganz harmlos und unbescholten auf Azeroth Richtung Redridge Gebirge um eine Miniqueste zu machen und wundert sich über das Chat-Log: "Angriff eines Riesen!" Können mich ja nicht meinen, die Gegend ist ein L20 Gebiet dachte ich mir und setzte meinen Weg fort, doch kaum im Dorf angekommen bot sich mir dieses Bild:



Nur um kurz danach mit knapp 2000 Punkten Schaden (mehrfach) ins Nirvana geblasen zu werden. Der Riese tobte noch eine Weile durch das Dorf, um dann zu verschwinden. Bald darauf war auch die Verstärkung aus dem Nahen Stormwind eingetroffen, aber glücklicherweise ohne gebraucht zu werden. Nur die vielen Opfer auf der Strasse waren noch stumme Zeugen des Angriffs:



In der Nähe des Dorfes wurde ein Taure der Horde gesehen und es kamen schnell Gerüchte auf, dass dieser für den Angriff verantwortlich sei.
Vielleicht kann mir ein alter WoW Hase mal erklären, wie man einen Riesen ins Gepäck bekommt?!
